Lady Antebellum Shares the Beauty of Nashville
Most country singers move to Nashville to chase their dream. However, Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott is the exception, because she was born and raised there.
“So many people move here from somewhere else, so that brings a whole other energy to the town,” she says. “I’m rare. I tell people where I’m from and they are like, ‘No way! Nobody is from here!’ Everybody moves here from somewhere else and I think that adds to the uniqueness of Nashville.”
Her bandmates Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley are both Georgia natives, but quickly found their comfort zone after moving to Music City. They met Scott at a club, and she was familiar with their music after checking them out on MySpace. Their budding friendship led to songwriting, a record deal and ultimately a country hit, “Love Don’t Live Here.”
“Being in a town surrounded by people who share the same love of music and enjoyment of songwriting — that was intoxicating for me,” says Kelley. “It really was, just to go out and meet different people. That’s how I met Hillary. We met out one night and got together to write songs, the three of us. I mean, how something like this could come about from something as casual as that. That’s just the beauty of Nashville.”
“I never have seen so many creative people in once place,” Haywood says. “Being home in Augusta, or Atlanta when I was living there, I played music but really didn’t know anyone else who played music, let alone really, really loved it. … I didn’t have any friends like that in Atlanta. And when you come up here, everybody you meet is passionate about music and the talent is just unbelievable. It’s crazy that they are all in this one city.”
